Lynzie & Corey
An African American Wedding at the Noor Pasadena
The day started as we both separated to photograph the beginning moments of Lynzie & Corey’s day; Lynzie begins the day at Hyatt Place Pasadena and Corey at the Langham Huntington Pasadena. The maid of honor Talisha toasted glittering glasses of Moët & Chandon to the bride as the girls gathered around her in their bright floral robes. After putting on her dress, with the help of her maid of honor- Lynzie stood before the doorway preparing her reveal to the bridesmaids, and their glowing expressions tell it all.
At the Langham Huntington in another part of Pasadena, the men listened to music, danced and sipped Remy Martin while discussing the day ahead as they finalized their outfits.
The Noor was was preparing for the ceremony and served as the rendezvous point for the wedding parties. The bride caught herself an Uber and rode to her ceremony in the most California way as the groomsmen head out from the valet.
At an earlier part of the timeline, when we first met Lynzie and Corey at a comfy coffee shop in Pasadena, we were immediately excited about who they were as people, their interests and the cultural traditions they planned to have at their wedding; needless to say were excited to see everything come into form.
The ceremony floor was blanketed in billowing white silk, staged within the center courtyard at the Noor. Guests gathered around the signature floral fountain to watch the union unfold. The officiant paid respect to the loved ones who could not be present for the celebration and with ancestral reference, evoking a strong respectful reminder of the connection between us all present and not. Here we get the first experience of an African American tradition of the tasting of the four elements, a reminder that there will be various moments we all experience. Shortly after the kiss and I do’s, Lynzie & Corey joined hands to jump the broom to signify leaping into their new life together in a tradition that has African roots.
After the couple made their grand entrance and had their first dance, we took a brief moment away from the reception area for an impromptu golden hour moment along the classic bridge leading into the Noor. With the wonderful light making it’s evening appearance, we wrapped the intimate moment in time for the dance floor to heat up and the familiar evening activities to begin.
As photographers, you gain additional insight into the wonderful people that surround the married couples from behind the camera and without saying, Lynzie & Corey have a great cast of friends and family that made this wedding unique and amazing.
